Hide and Seek - Moments Beyond the Artwork

Thursday. April 9. 2026

During my solo exhibition, “Hide and Seek 숨바꼭질,” I also had the opportunity to host several special programs, including a one day drawing class, a docent tour, and a seminar. All of these events were held at Gallery The Colour, which has a comfortable space with tables and chairs inside the gallery. It was the perfect place for people to gather, learn, and enjoy art together. I was very thankful that Derwent generously sponsored all of the materials for these programs, including graphite pencils, colored pencils, and other drawing supplies. Thanks to their support, everyone was able to try a variety of high quality materials during the events.

A short presentation in class

On March 28, I hosted a one day drawing class for people who had signed up online. I started with a short talk about drawing with graphite pencils and shared some of the basic techniques that I use in my own work. After that, we spent time practicing together, and everyone had a chance to draw while asking questions along the way. It was so much fun to meet people who enjoy drawing with graphite pencils as much as I do. Seeing everyone focused on their drawings and enjoying the process made me very happy, and I truly enjoyed spending the day with them.

A docent tour day :)

On April 1, I gave a docent tour for guests from Sinhan Corp., the company that imports and distributes many well known art brands, including Derwent, Canson, and Prismacolor, in South Korea. During the tour, I introduced my “Hide and Seek 숨바꼭질” series and talked about the ideas behind the drawings, the inspiration for each piece, and the techniques I used to create them. I was a little nervous because I was speaking in front of a group of people, but everyone was kind, supportive, and genuinely interested in hearing the stories behind my artwork. Their thoughtful questions and warm reactions made me feel much more comfortable.

On April 4, I was invited to give a seminar for the members of the Korean Colored Pencil Association. I was the first speaker of the day and gave a 45 minute presentation about graphite pencil drawing. I talked about my journey as an artist, my personal experiences, the current art market, and where I think graphite art may be heading in the future. After the presentation, we had a hands on session where everyone could try different kinds of colored pencils and other art materials made by Derwent. It was exciting to explore different materials together, and I enjoyed seeing everyone experiment and share their thoughts.

Looking back, these programs became one of the most meaningful parts of my solo exhibition. I was able to meet so many wonderful people who love art, share my experiences, and have inspiring conversations throughout the exhibition. I learned just as much from the visitors as they learned from me. Every class, presentation, and conversation became a special memory, and I will always be grateful for this wonderful experience.
