After spending two months in Korea, my travel buddy, Little Kong and I planned a trip to the Seattle area to visit an exhibition called “Creatures Among Us,” which includes my drawings. The exhibition was held at Vashon Center for the Arts on Vashon Island. We decided to make it a road trip and drive all the way there, which made the journey feel even more special and exciting from the beginning. The long drive felt tiring at times, but also fun because we were slowly moving closer to the exhibition and the island.
Waiting to board the ferry to Vashon Island
From Tacoma, we took a ferry to Vashon Island. The ferry ride itself was already beautiful and gave us a really calm and happy feeling. Seeing the water, the open sky, and slowly approaching the island made us even more excited. Once we got off the ferry, we went straight to Vashon Center for the Arts to see the exhibition.

The building of Vashon Center for the Arts was very beautiful, with a modern and clean design that felt bright and welcoming. Inside, the gallery space felt calm and open, which made the artwork stand out even more. I also had a chance to meet Bruce Morser, who is the president of the board at VCA and has worked as an illustrator for over 40 years. Since his main medium is pencil, it was really meaningful to talk with him and share our experiences. He kindly showed us around the center and even gifted me his book “Memories of Castle Island,” which made the visit even more memorable.

Spending time with the artworks and the people at VCA made the experience feel very meaningful, and visiting Vashon Island and the exhibition will stay as an unforgettable memory for me. The works by other artists in the exhibition were especially impressive, and I found myself feeling a lot of inspiration while looking at them. Each piece had its own mood and story, and it was really interesting to see different ways of interpreting the theme. Seeing how other artists approach their work made me reflect on my own practice as well, and it gave me new energy and ideas to keep creating.
